EDRG 3344 T/R Revised MGP Poem

“Mean germs be gone”

Don’t want to feel sick and blue

U can try a thing or too

Wash your hands right

Will keep the germs out of sight

Those yucky mean germs can really get on our nerves

Cough and sneeze into your elbow

And not at your fellow

Before you eat make sure to wash your hands

Sing two happy birthday songs and maybe do a little dance

Germs can be mean and scary

But to the contrary

You should keep them off of you

If you want to stay away from the flu

EDRG 3344 T/R Expository Revised

Hello everyone Happy Friday! :) My topic for my 2ND grade audience is Staying Healthy.

This format is coming from a teacher's point of view and what I plan on doing is creating a step by step on the appropriate hand washing process for the students.

I plan on creating this on a poster board then I will try to laminate it and I definitely plan on keeping so I can display in my classroom.

The topic of my poster board will be: HAND WASHING DONE RIGHT

It will say:

Do you hate getting sick?

Want to know an easy way we can prevent from getting sick?

Follow these easy steps to wash hands correctly?

*Wash hands in warm water
*Use soap and lather while signing 2 Happy Birthday songs!
*Very important make sure to get in between the fingers and under your nails.
*Also don't forget to lather around your wrists.
*Rinse and dry well with a clean towel.

Why is washing your hands so important?

UNINVITED GERMS are everywhere...

Did you know 1 in 3 people DO NOT wash their hands after using the restroom YUCK!

Hand washing can be fun by using colorful soaps (pic) and soaps with different shapes (pic).

Again this format will be a display in a classroom, and I plan on adding additional pictures and I might need to cut down the wording a little, but please I am up for any suggestions to improve my expository.

Thank you everyone for your help, have a wonderful weekend.

EDRG 3344 T/R Revised Narrative

My narrative is a short fiction story, which I am planning as my final outcome to have made into a book format with binding and with pictures.

Do not have a title yet to my book

Here is my revised narrative story.

“The time has come…Germ Buster’s we must visit the schools again and make sure all our students know how to take care of themselves,” Sanitize Sam said enthusiastically.

“He’s right,” said Healthy Heather. “They are saying this season is suppose to be our worse one yet, and it’s our job to make sure our children are ready this flu season. This Swine Flu can be scary!”

“She is right, okay we need to hurry, let’s go!” Clean Clifford said urgently.

Clean Clifford and his Germ Buster team knew it was important to let all the children know how important proper hand washing is.

A group of students were sitting in their class writing in their journals when all of a sudden the class grew windy and suddenly the Germ Buster team appeared.

“Hello students, it us your friendly Germ Buster team” said Clean Clifford.

The students were so happy to see their favorite germ fighting agents.

“Now boys and girls we are here because we want you all to be prepared for this flu season” said Sanitize Sam with a concern look on his face.

Next, Healthy Heather asked the students a question, “Boys, and girls we all know what germs can do to us…can someone tell us why germs are so harmful?” asked Healthy Heather.

One child quickly raised his hand and with confidence answered “ I can tell you germs are bad because they can make us very sick!”

All the children nodded their head and agreed.

Mrs. Apple who was the teacher asked her favorite Germ Buster team to explain to the students again how they can properly wash their hands.

The Germ Buster team began by showing the students pictures of what bad germs look like.

“Yuck, that’s gross!” one student said.

“This is what stays on your hands boys and girls if you don’t wash your hands properly” said Clean Clifford.

“We can beat these germ villains!” Healthy Heather said proudly.

“Yeah!” the class shouted with enthusiasm.

“Okay students let’s go over step by step the correct way to wash our hands,” said Sanitize Sam.

Sanitize Sam and the other Germ Buster agents showed the students how to wash their hands.

Suddenly appeared a magical sink and soap. Clean Clifford told the students “Okay first step rinse your hands off with water, then apply soap, and start to lather”.

“He’s right boy’s and girl’s, now wash your hands and sing two Happy Birthday songs out loud,” said Healthy Heather. “Let’s all sing together”.

The Germ Buster team and students all sang two Happy Birthday songs.

“Great job everyone, now once you are done grab a paper towel, and dry your hands, also use that paper towel to turn off the knob off, and then you can throw it away” Sanitize Sam told the class.

“Congratulations class we all know how to safely and carefully wash our hands” said the Germ Buster team with excitement.

What other important safety habits do you follow?

EDRG 3344 T/R Talking...

I believe talking is one of the most important factors to have in a successful classroom. Students need to feel that they can express themselves verbally and this also helps to establish social skills. I also agree talking is necessary for learning, and a few examples where we can integrate talking in our classroom is creating small groups. With about 3 to 4 students in each group this will help students take ownership in their thoughts and ideas. Also as we learned in our class lecture it is important for us as the teachers to discuss with the class for about 5 minutes then go back and allow your small groups to discuss for 5 minutes as well. Then allow your small group to share their thoughts with the class. Small groups helps build language proficiency and allows students to participate.

The next idea to integrate talking is to do read alouds. This will help with fluency, and also when reading a poem out loud the teacher and students can take turns reading each stanza. Next, what we can do as teachers as an activity for our students is allow them to create their next stanza for the poem, and this can benefit their writing skills.

Creating a reader’s theatre is another way to get students to comprehend, and again talking is a key factor in a reader’s theatre.

It is also very important to allow our students to present in front of the class at a young age, examples can be show and tell, or to present a oral report. This will benefit them when they are older to feel more confident when in front of the class.

Lastly creating any type of drama with a puppet character as an example can help with logical thinking, and it can also integrate language arts.

I also feel talking has helped me personally, because I feel comfortable when my teacher allows us to discuss and ask questions regarding their lesson. This is helpful because then I have a better idea and understand the lesson, therefore I feel confident discussing my thoughts to the class. It has also helped me when presenting in front of the class. When I first started college I completed a communications class, and that class was definitely very beneficial for me. Our classmates scored us individually and this helped me to see what I needed to work on as my weaknesses and what my strengths were. After completing my communications class, I felt much more confident presenting in front of the classroom.
